Professional Swim Instruction
Athletic Club Northeast swim instructors have been competitive swimmers and have had several years of teaching and training all swimming levels and abilities in different environments.

Pre School Swim Lessons
Aqua TOTS (6 months-18mo)
Classes are 25 minutes in length, and have a 6:1 student to instructor ratio. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This is a water acclimation class for parent and child. Skills to work on are acclimating children to the water, learning to help your child move in the water, safely entering and exiting the pool, blowing bubbles and having fun singing songs. To move to Pre-Beginner class children must be 2 years or older, be able to stand on dock independent of parent and follow instructions.
Aqua KIDS (18 mo - 3yrs old)
Classes are 25 minutes in length, and have a 6:1 student to instructor ratio. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This class prepares children for lessons without the parent and gives them a head start in learning to swim. Skills to work on include bubbles, kicking, standing on the platform by themselves, and becoming independent of parents. To move to Pre-Beginner class children must be 2 years or older, be able to stand on dock independent of parent and follow instructions.
Pre Beginner (2-4 years old)
Classes are 25 minutes in length, and have a 4:1 student to instructor ratio. Parents may sit on edge of pool. No floats are used. This class is for children independent of parent but not ready for the Beginner class. Skills to complete are standing on dock by self, blowing bubbles, going underwater, front and back float with assistance, jumping in, kicking and safety skills. To move to Beginner children must be able to stand on dock by self, follow directions, be independent of parent without crying, go underwater and blow bubbles by self.
Beginner (3-5 years old)
Classes are 25 minutes in length, and have a 4:1 student to instructor ratio. Parents must sit away from child. No floats are used. Skills to complete are blowing bubbles, going underwater, front and back floating by self, front and back floating with kick, freestyle and backstroke arms, jumping into water and safety skills. To move to Advanced Beginners, children must be able to front float and kick for 10 feet, back float unassisted for 15 seconds, keep face in the water and blow bubbles, as well as bob underwater several times.
Advanced Beginner (3-5 years old)
Classes are 25 minutes in length, and have a 4:1 student to instructor ratio. Parents must sit away from pool. Skills to complete are: review beginner skills, freestyle arms, side breathing and coordination, backstroke kick, arms and coordination, switch from freestyle to backstroke, tread water, adjust to deep water and safety skills. To move to Intermediate/Advanced child must be able to swim freestyle and backstroke for 15 yards unassisted, tread water for 15 seconds and demonstrate backstroke.
Intermediate/Beginner (4-6 years old)
Classes are 25 minutes in length, and have a 4:1 student to instructor ratio. Parents must sit away from pool. Skills to be complete are: review advanced beginner skills. Butterfly and breaststroke kick, arms and coordination, diving and safety skills. To move to Intermediate/Advanced class children must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted with freestyle and backstroke and have a recognizable breaststroke and butterfly.
Intermediate/Advanced (4-7 years old)
Classes are 25 minutes in length, and have a 4:1 student to instructor ratio. Parents must sit away from pool. Skills to be complete are: review advanced and intermediate beginner skills, Butterfly and Breaststroke kicks, arms and coordination, diving and safety skills. To move to swim team child must be 5 years or older, able to swim 2 laps of freestyle and backstroke and have a recognizable butterfly and breaststroke.
Grade School Swim Lessons
Beginner (5-9 years old)
Classes are 25 minutes in length, and have a 4:1 student to instructor ratio. Parents must sit away from child. No floats are used. Swim KIDS (5-9 years old)
Sessions are 45 minutes long. There is a 10:1 swimmer to instructor ratio. This class is designed to help kids ages 5-9 years old build endurance and master strokes. Skills to complete: endurance in the 4 competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly) and training in diving and flip turns. This is a great class to get ready for Swim Team and for those above our Intermediate Advanced level.
:: Summer HOURS: 3:30pm-4:15pm Monday through Thursday and 12:30-1:15 on Sundays
Swim Team (7-14 years old)
Sessions are 1 hour long, meeting up to 5 times a week, Sunday – Thursday, August through May. There is a 10:1 swimmer to instructor ratio. This is not a competitive team, so no swim meets are hosted or attended. Skills to complete: endurance in the 4 competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly) and training in diving and flip turns. This is a great class to have kids get exercise, get ready for summer or to keep their skills up.
