Kendo
Kendo is the Art of Japanese fencing. The character for "Ken" means 'sword', while the character for "Do" means 'the way' or 'path', which translates as "the way of the sword". Kendo represents a path in life that is followed through the training of Kendo.
Modern day Kendo continues the samurai tradition to improve oneself through the strict discipline and rigorous training required to study the way of the sword. The Martial art of Kendo is practiced by over eight million men, women and children, from all walks of life, throughout the world. The emphasis of the Georgia Kendo Alliance classes range from very basic sitting positions seiza and sonkyo, basic stances (kamae), footwork (ashi-sabaki), proper form to hold and sword swing, proper strike posture and focus (fumikomi), to advanced techniques (waza), sparring (shiai), forms (kata), and kendo philosophy.

Shinkendo
The Shinkendo school emphasizes very traditional and effective swordsmanship, which with serious training, leads to both practical ability as well as an understanding of classical martial arts. Shinkendo requires rigorous physical training, depth of coordination, and intense focus; but the most important aspect of Shinkendo is the emphasis on spiritual understanding, which brings Bushi Damashii (the Samurai/warrior spirit), and is as relevant now as it was hundreds of years ago.
